Set links to open in a new window
Setting links to open in new windows is not supported in Chorus. We know this may be a significant change to the way you create your stories, but it’s one that greatly improves the experience for readers.
Usability testing shows that on desktops, experienced users understand how to open a link in a new window, and are annoyed when a site makes that choice for them. Inexperienced users, on the other hand, are frequently confused by new windows because it breaks their back button. Nearly all users make frequent use of the back button, but new tabs and windows fundamentally alter that experience, leading to frustration and confusion.
On mobile, the experience of new windows is even worse, because tabbing through multiple browser windows is an uncommon behavior for most users. Again, users know and understand how to use the back button, so anything that hinders that is frustrating.
Based on this research, Chorus does not support an option for opening links in a new window. If you were using this option in legacy Chorus, you can safely break the habit. Your readers will thank you.
