Breakers allow you to highlight content on your homepage, such as podcasts, videos, TV shows, or stories from a particular group. Breakers can appear right below the hero or further down, depending on network-level settings.
Breakers stretch across the full width of the page—breaking up the flow of content. On mobile, the stories or shows stack and flex to accommodate smaller screens.
Breakers are custom components, so your site may behave differently than the examples in this article.
Breakers are only available for coupled Chorus users, but your organization has the ability to create and customize any component that appears on the site to function in similar ways.
Hubs
Chicago Sun-Times and Deseret can feature content from a hub—like sports, metro news, or politics—in a homepage breaker. Editors can manage the stories that appear on the homepage in the layout tool.
Featured writers or columnists
You can feature the latest stories from columnists or contributors on the homepage. This option is currently available to the Chicago Sun-Times and Deseret. It pulls in stories from a columnists or featured writers group and reuses photos from author profiles.
Videos and TV shows
Video breakers can feature specific shows or series—or the latest episodes from a particular group. The TV shows variation uses cover images to highlight ongoing shows. These breakers are custom components, so the product team would need to make any changes to the order of shows or number or shows.
Video breakers can also feature the latest videos in a group. In this type of breaker, the order of the videos can be changed by updating the layout for that hub.
Podcasts
Podcast breakers can feature a variety of podcasts like on The Ringer and The McElroy Family or one particular episode like on Vox.com and SB Nation. These breakers are powered by network-level options and cover images from each of the podcast groups.
