Whether you want stories to stand out as heroes or flow freely in reverse-chronological order, the layout tool is there to help you organize your homepage and hubpages.
Your Chorus homepage is made up of a hero, which gives visual prominence to the top stories of the day; a feed of your published posts; and optionally, some breakers to highlight additional content. In the hub layout tool, you’ll see one long list of stories, flowing from the hero down to the feed.
Your organization's home and hub pages can be curated with the hub layout tool, where editors on your team will be able to reorder and pin stories. Layouts (such as the hero layout) will be determined by your organization's individual setup, but you will be able to pin and unpin stories, as well as add stories to a page following this guide.
Select a hero layout
Your community might have several hero layout options available, from a one-up that features a singular top story, to layouts that display several articles “above the fold.”
- From your homepage, open Quick Admin > Hub Layout.
- Select the hub you want to update in the Hub dropdown.
- Choose from the layout options in the Layout dropdown.
- Hit Preview to preview the changes.
- Hit Push Changes Live when you’re ready.
Pinned and unpinned stories
Any stories that are pinned will stay in the same spot on the page, even as newer content is published. Pinned stories appear in pink in the right column of the layout tool. Unpinned stories, on the other hand, will flow down (and eventually off) the page in reverse chronological order. Unpinned stories appear in white.
To pin or unpin a story that has been added to your layout, hover over it and select the appropriate option. And as always, remember to hit Push Changes Live once you’re happy with the lineup.
Add stories to a page
There are two ways to get stories onto your home or hubpage: by selecting a placement option before publishing, or by using the layout tool. If a placement wasn’t selected when a story was first published, you’ll need to manually curate it:
- From your homepage, open Quick Admin > Hub Layout.
- If the story was published recently, you should see it in the queue under Never placed on this page.
- If you want to place an older story or a story from another community within your network, switch the dropdown on the left to URL from any hub, paste in the URL of the story, and hit Find.
- Drag and drop the story into the right column, where you’d like it to appear. It will be pinned by default.
- Once you’re done, hit Push Changes Live.
Note: If your page is full, a red warning will appear and you’ll have to remove some stories before adding any others. To do this, hover over a story in the right column and hit Remove.
The layout tool has more features than we’ve been able to cover here. Learn more about adding a breaking news banner, restoring stories to a hub, or adding stories from another site.
