Editors can manage link sets.
Link sets highlight related stories for your audience. You can customize link sets to include recent stories, stories from a particular group, or stories from a manually curated list. You can also include an embed from Chorus Video or around the web.
You may want to experiment with having several link sets (e.g., SB Nation has link sets for MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, soccer, tennis, and more), and you can also choose a default fallback for your site.
How link sets appear on your site
Link sets will appear at the bottom of a published story. On the default article template, link sets will appear as a list of links. On any feature template, link sets will appear as a banner that breaks across the page.
Link sets can be used to show a set of related links, whether it’s on a published story it’s attached to or anywhere else on the site.
How link sets get applied to stories
- If you manually add a link set to a story in the story editor, the story will always use that link set.
- If a story has a primary group (other than the Front Page) and that group already has a link set created for it, the story will automatically use the group’s link set.
- If you don’t add a link set to a story, the story will use the default fallback link set unless a default has not yet been created for your community.
Common types of link sets
There are many ways to customize your link sets, but here are a few examples you might want to explore.
Type of link set |
Set it up |
Most popular stories based on site traffic from the past two weeks. This can be a good fallback option, for when a specific link set isn’t selected in the story editor. |
Change the update mode to Update with newest stories. Select Update with highest traffic stories. If you’d like this to be your site’s fallback, select Default to this link set. |
Latest stories from a group. This is a popular option to expose more closely-related content from your site. |
Change the update mode to Update with newest stories. Select your group from the Attach to group dropdown. |
Manually curated. This type of link set is a good option if you want to feature links from multiple sites (any domain will work), or if you plan to update the links frequently. |
Make sure the update mode is set to Update manually. Paste in your URLs. Each story’s headline will automatically populate. |
Create a link set
- From your homepage, open Quick Admin > Link Sets.
- Give your link set a name.
- Add the URLs you want to include, or hit Update with highest-traffic stories.
- From here, you have a few options—you can Update with highest-traffic stories, Update with newest stories, or Update manually.
- To pull stories from a particular group and make this link set the default for the group, update the Attach to group menu.
- If you want Chorus to use this link set for stories without a specific one, select Default to this link set.
- To override all of the link sets on your site with this one, select Override other link sets. We don’t recommend using this option unless you want to highlight a group of stories for a short amount of time.
- Hit Save.
Add an embed
If you want to include a video from Chorus Video:
- Hit the Chorus Video UUID button.
- Enter the name of the video.
- Hit Search.
- Select the video. The embed code will auto-populate.
- Hit Save.
Alternatively, you can include an embed or podcast from around the web with markup:
- Copy the embed code from the embed provider (e.g., YouTube, Megaphone).
- Paste the code into the Embed Code field.
- Hit Save.
