Polygon, The Verge, and Eater can create reviews by adding scorecards to a story. Scorecards can be placed anywhere in the review.
Scorecards should only be included when a product, venue, or game is being reviewed—consider adding a product to highlight items audiences may want to buy.
Note: Creating multiple reviews for the same product, venue, or game can hurt search performance and is not recommended.
Games
Polygon contributors can create scorecards to review games.
- In the Insert dropdown, select Scorecard.
- Search for the game you want to review. Keep in mind, the game must have an existing record in the game database.
- Add a score between one and 10, with increments of .5.
- Add individual platform scores, if relevant. Platform scores are associated with game releases.
- Fill in the body of the scorecard. You can include formatted text, pull quotes, images, videos, embeds, and HTML blocks.
- Hit the Insert scorecard button to add it to your story.
- Head over to the Preview screen to see how the scorecard will appear for audiences, including the venue details, score, and—if added to the game record—retailer links. It will be centered by default, but you can align it or group it ion the Layout screen.
Products
Verge contributors can create scorecards to highlight products in reviews.
- In the Insert menu, select Scorecard.
- Select a product to score. Keep in mind, the product must have an existing record in the product database.
- Add a score between one and 10, in increments of .1.
- If an image has been added to the venue record, it will be included in the scorecard. You can remove it or add a new one.
- Create the content for your scorecard; you’ll want to format your good stuff and bad stuff as bulleted lists.
- Hit Insert scorecard.
- Head over to the Preview screen to see how the scorecard will appear for audiences, including the product details, score, and—if added—an image and retailer links. It will be centered by default, but you can align it or group it on the Layout screen.
Venues
Eater contributors can create scorecards for venues.
- In the Insert dropdown, select Scorecard.
- Enter a venue that’s in our structured database.
- Add a score between one and four.
- If an image has been added to the venue record, it will be included in the scorecard. You can remove it or add a new one.
- Add an optional Google critic snippet. These short descriptions display for mobile audiences in Google search results, help improve search performance, and should be included whenever possible. Based on Google’s guidelines, these descriptions should be less than 200 characters, clearly indicate an opinion about the subject of the review, and pulled directly from the body of the review—no paraphrasing, no headlines.
- Fill in the body of the scorecard. You can include formatted text, pull quotes, images, videos, embeds, and HTML blocks.
- Hit the Insert scorecard button to add it to your story.
- Head over to the Preview screen to see how the scorecard will appear for audiences, including the venue details, score, and—if added—image and OpenTable button. It will be centered by default, but you can align it or group it on the Layout screen.
